For 5 years I was an Art Director at the Smithsonian's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. For over 15 years, I worked as a freelance designer for several divisions of the Smithsonian Institution.

From 1989 until 2002 I worked for the National Geographic Society on contract in the Promotions Department and as a freelance designer for the Books Division.
For McKnight Design, I have designed wayside exhibits and created illustrations for a variety of different projects.
For Worldwatch Institute, I created illustrations for their magazine World Watch and their reports.
Since 2002, I have worked as a freelance designer for Island Press, a non-profit publisher of environmental information.
